The day when this apocalypse (2020)  ends.

The year 2020 was welcomed with big expectations and open arms. Do you remember your first day of 2020? And did you have even the slightest idea of how you would be celebrating this year’s end? If you are reading this then “Congratulations you survived!”  We have survived tragic news of disasters, natural calamities, deaths of relatives, friends, and celebrities, the economy collapsing, unemployment, and missing out on important days of our lives. We have all fought depression, anxiety, mental sickness and a lot we don’t even know. So take a few minutes to appreciate coming this far and doing great till now. The war isn’t over and neither are we done. We humans are very strong. Let’s take a small look over the things that happened in 2020:

Beirut explosion
A massive explosion shattered Beirut on August 4, 2020, the blast emanated from Beirut's port, where 2,750 tonnes of highly explosive ammonium nitrate was being stored. At least 157 people were killed, over 6,000 injured, and hundreds of thousands were displaced.

Black Lives Matter Movement by virtue of George Floyd's killing
Massive protests swept the US in late May and early June following the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota, raising the unsolved and ever-fought racism issue not only in the US but all over the world.

Coronavirus pandemic
The outbreak of coronavirus, or COVID-19, is the most disturbing and major issue of the year 2020. It was successful in making the whole world at a halt, causing the loss of huge human life and economic depression.
Wasn't Corona Virus itself harmful and fatal that we also got introduced to Covid 19's new strain?

Cat missing for three years reunited with UK owner
53-year-old Keith Bigland from Fenland in Cambridgeshire was “distraught” when his late mother’s pet cat, Biscuit, disappeared in 2017 after escaping from their home. But Mr. Bigland and his wife Su were in disbelief when a local vet called them last Wednesday to say their fluffy gold and white pet, now aged 14, had been handed in after he was spotted just over one kilometer from their house.

If it wasn’t for 2020, I wouldn’t have started typing; writing a book or blog would just have been a dream. If it wasn’t for 2020, I wouldn’t have gotten my free time, a “me time” in which I watched a lot of series, movies, and documentaries, read a lot of kinds of stuff, analyzed a lot of relationships, worked on myself;  to make a better-fitter me. It was an eye-opening and relaxing period which we all wanted.

Yes, we lost a lot of people and almost lost a few; yes we learned the value of life, love, contact, touch, relationship, hygiene, and clear breath. Few of us used the time we got in this lockdown period; they did something ‘productive’, few of us just had the ‘leisure times of our lives’, few were a part of both and trust me no one did anything wrong by being in any of these clubs. The thing is in this year of ups and downs and global disasters; we have all survived and evolved.

We all have lots and lots of expectations from 2021, I will be turning 20 and entering my 20s which is making me anxious, it will probably be my last academic or college year making me very well-graduated and eligible for employment. I am not sure whether I will ace this year or come out as a dumb piece but I am ready for any and everything. One thing that this year 2020 and its events have made us all is strong and open to accept any challenge and brave enough to face them. God forbid, if next time when something devastating happens, we will be ready to deal with it and not be as clueless or lost as we were this time. And even if anyone of us still feels lost, anxious, or scared we know that we have someone whom we can turn to.

Cheers to this New Year,
Cheers to new opportunities,
Let us all be together and ace this year,
Fight all the challenges,
Defeat all the problems,
Embrace our pluses,
Celebrate our joys and share our sorrows,
Let us all evolve into the best of us,
Save the environment, Save yourself.
